Construction Sequence of the Bridge Over Deusto Channel in San Ignacio Neighborhood, Bilbao
Abstract
The Bridge over Deusto Channel in the neighbourhood of San Ignacio, Bilbao, is a through-arch bridge with a span length of 75 meters and a combined behaviour between bow-string and double-fixed beam. In order to simplify and expedite the construction process by eliminating the temporary supports in the channel, a sequence was created combining the use of self-propelled modular transports, with barges that pick them up, positioning the central section of the arch over the cantilevers previously installed from both sides of the channel. The assembly of the central section to be transported is carried out on one side of the channel, while the members waiting each side are cantilevered from both abutments.
