Structural Rehabilitation of the old Convention Pavilion in Madrid
Abstract
This work addresses the work carried out during the structural rehabilitation of the old convention pavilion of the Casa de Campo in Madrid. It deals with the study of two structural elements such as a laminar roof with a 30 m span and a cable-stayed canopy with the same span. The use of aluminous cement during construction has caused a dramatic decrease in the compressive strength of the concrete in the supporting diaphragms of the sheet roof, forcing its reconstruction and that of the existing reinforcing cables in it. The complete analysis of the roof is addressed, as well as the estimation of a realistic value of the real strength of the concrete in the structure. The second element studied is the main canopy, which already suffered some problem in its original commissioning and which presents numerous metal reinforcements that make its structural operation confusing. The presence of aluminous cement in it, forced the property to shore the structure years ago, recently proceeding to rehabilitate and rebuild it.
