Abstract

A computer aided design system for bridge abutments is presented. The system is an useful tool for designers in order to optimize the design of abutments. It helps designers to choice the best system provides the complete geometry (including superficial or deep foundation), all the reinforcing bars, amount of materials and a very detailed estimation of cost. These results are displayed and they can be also printed. A ""sensibility analysis"" concerning both amount of materials and unit costs could also be performed. The system allows to change materials, verification codes and safety factors in order to be as general as possible.
