Abstract

The use of bundled bars has advantages such as decongestion of bars. However, the splicing of this type of bars requires greater detail both in design and in the execution. The most common lap splice in this type of bars is the splice by staggering the individual bars in the longitudinal direction. Eurocode 2 and ACI-318-14 differ in the ways of splicing by overlap and in the length of overlap required. In this technical note, the authors analyze the minimum tolerance as function of the type of splice in bundled bars, according to ACI-318-14 and Eurocode 2.
