Abstract

The article presents a comparison between various damage index models proposed in reinforced concrete buildings, subjected to seismic actions. The damage index is evaluated and compared along time during the seismic actions. The damage models included are the ones proposed by Lybas and Sozen, Banon and Veneziano, Park and Ang, Daali and by Soo, Meyer and Shinozuka. The comparisons are made using buildings with similar period but with different local ductility capacities. The non linear analysis uses the constitutive models by Roufaiel and Meyer, and Clough. The non linearity caused by concrete cracking is included, so the yielding curvature considers the elastic and anelastic shear as well as the bond deterioration causes by the loss of adherence.
