Some examples of application of extensometry techniques to control tests of singular structures
Abstract
Measuring strain by means of electrical resitance strain-gauges is a well-known technique, commonlt applied in numerous cases of experimental stress analsis. It constitutes a usedul tool in tsts and controls of all types of structures, specially those made of steel. This paper presents four examples of tests of quite doverse nature, in which such a technique was used. The first two cases are tests carried out at the Therman Power Planf of Escatron: one of them corresponds to the control system established during the process of cutting a reinforced concrete column, and the other to the internal pressure tests performed on the plant vessel. The third test concerns the experimental proofs made on the prototypes of two-floor cars for the spanish railways, and the last example describes the controls developed during the lifting process of the dome of St. Jordi Sport Hall in Barcelona.
