A soil-structure interface infinite element

Abstract

A special finite element allowing the conection betwee a C1 beam element and a C0 quadrilateral element has been developed. Also this special element model the joint discontinuity existing between two different materials, like soil and concrete. Therefore, the element can be applied in the framework of a general F.E. computer pprogram to anlyse underground structures either in the elastic or in the elastic-plastic range using a limited computational power.
